Sendling Running Club: Staying Grounded on Munich's Prettiest Route
The story of the Sendling Running Club starts with a move. When Matthias, a student and passionate runner, recently moved into the Sendling neighborhood, he was captivated by the beauty of the running trails along the Isar Flaucher. As an avid supporter of social runs, he spontaneously decided to start a community run in October 2025. To promote the event, he spent a whole week handing out flyers to joggers along his route, and from that grassroots effort, an authentic new community was born.
We Don't Follow Fleeting Hypes
The philosophy of Sendling Running Club is a direct response to a running scene that can sometimes feel overly commercialized. As the founder points out, unlike many social running clubs that focus on promoting their own brand for profit, this crew is "genuinely interested in establishing long-lasting connections between our runners." Their motto is to "not follow fleeting hypes but stay grounded." They believe their unique strength is having the prettiest running route in Munich and, more importantly, "authentic core members" who value connection over competition. The Sunday Morning Social Run
The culture of Sendling Running Club revolves around their weekly tradition. The group hosts social runs through Flaucher every Sunday at 10:00 a.m., starting from the Gasteig HP8. The route is scenic and steady, beginning at the Gasteig and following the Isarwerkkanal south toward the Großhesseloher Bridge. About halfway, runners climb a bit of elevation to reach Hochleite before returning along the other side of the Isar. After the run, the group's social spirit continues as they enjoy coffee and conversation at the Gasteig Café.An Invitation to Stay Grounded
The Club warmly welcomes everyone. There’s no membership fee, and anyone can join for free. If you’re in Munich and looking for a relaxed vibe and a community that values honest connections, they invite you to become a member. All updates about their social runs and special events—like Silvester runs or coffee shop runs—are available on their Instagram and Strava pages.Munich's Vibrant Running Landscape
Sendling Running Club adds a fresh, grounded energy to Munich's vibrant running scene. The Bavarian capital is home to a diverse community of groups, including the energetic KRAFT Runners Munich chapter and the large, global adidas Runners community. This diverse landscape offers space for every runner, from casual joggers to serious competitors.Munich is a haven for runners. It's known for its high quality of life, proximity to the Alps, and its beautiful green spaces. The crew's favorite route, the Isar Flaucher, is a scenic, natural, protected green area along the Isar River, considered by many to be one of the city's most picturesque spots. This is complemented by the world-famous Englischer Garten (English Garden), one of the largest urban parks in the world. The top running event in the city is the Munich Marathon, held in the fall and ending at the iconic Olympic Stadium.
