BMO Running Club Dublin’s Raw and Welcoming Running Family
BMO Running Club began in Dublin in July 2025, driven by a simple desire for a running group that feels like a team rather than a leaderboard. Inspired by Copenhagen's creative, socially vibrant running culture, BMO sought to bring that spirit to Dublin with an authentic, unpolished edge. What started as a small circle of friends gathering for Sunday runs soon grew into a close-knit crew bonded not only by miles but also by shared moments over homemade sourdough buns and coffee. That post-run ritual became the heart of BMO, turning casual runners into a committed community.
Comfort Is a Mindset That Drives Growth
At BMO, comfort is not seen as a badge of honor but as a barrier to change. The crew embraces the challenge of growth, welcoming runners of all paces—from easy joggers to tempo runners—under the philosophy that running is a cultural experience, not just cardio. BMO rejects the competitive leaderboard mindset in favor of shared effort and mutual encouragement. The crew’s mission is to create Dublin’s most welcoming and vibrant running community, fueled by runs, food, and cultural connection.
Where Miles Become Friendships
The crew’s vibe is defined by openness and authenticity. BMO embraces diversity and inclusivity, drawing people who want to push themselves but value camaraderie above all else. With around 50 members, BMO is a medium-sized crew that fosters a social tone that balances seriousness and warmth. The post-run gatherings over fresh sourdough buns and coffee are more than tradition; they are the glue that keeps members coming back and builds lasting friendships beyond the streets and trails.
Runs That Tell a Story
BMO’s calendar centers on Sunday Socials, a staple event in which the crew covers about 5 kilometers at various paces before gathering for coffee and the signature BMO buns. The crew also hosts its own unique events that reflect its spirit, including the Bakery Relay—a team race across local cafés, the Suffer Fest—a 2-kilometer uphill knockout in Ticknock, and the Coast 2 Coast Ultra Relay, a challenging 300-plus kilometer relay across Ireland. These runs emphasize teamwork and narrative over competition.
Open Arms and Open Roads
Anyone interested in running with BMO can join without paying membership fees. The crew welcomes all paces and distances, from short 5K runs to ultra distances beyond the marathon. With pace groups for easy, moderate, and tempo runners, BMO makes space for everyone to develop alongside supportive peers. The community spirit extends well beyond the runs, anchored by shared rituals and a common purpose.
Dublin’s Evolving Running Scene
BMO adds a distinctive voice to Dublin’s active running culture by combining social engagement with athletic challenge. Its approach resonates with runners who prefer a team atmosphere to solitary training. By hosting unique events and prioritizing inclusive community experiences, BMO contributes to the city’s growing interest in running as a lifestyle and cultural activity.
The Pulse of Dublin’s Streets and Parks
Dublin offers varied landscapes for running, from urban routes along the River Liffey to green spaces like Phoenix Park and the nearby rolling hills of Ticknock. BMO’s runs often explore these areas, combining city sights with natural beauty. The crew’s local events connect runners to the city’s character, using familiar landmarks as backdrops for community and challenge.
Signature Events Rooted in Local Spirit
Dublin’s running calendar includes established events such as the Dublin Marathon and the Great Ireland Run. BMO’s own events build on this tradition by introducing new formats that emphasize story and teamwork rather than individual results. The Bakery Relay and Coast 2 Coast Ultra Relay showcase the crew’s creativity and commitment to pushing boundaries while celebrating local culture.
A Community Built on Shared Effort and Buns
BMO Running Club’s essence lies in the people who show up, the stories they create, and the bonds they forge. The name itself, tied to the beloved sourdough buns served after runs, symbolizes the crew’s commitment to both challenge and connection. With no single founder emphasized, BMO remains a collective movement, welcoming runners to a space where hard work meets warmth and where every run is a chance to grow together.
