Unnamed Run Crew

Boston, United States

Crew at a Glance

Unnamed Run Crew was a pioneering urban running crew that played a pivotal role in shaping the modern running scene in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in May 2015 by Leandrew, they were instrumental in bringing the global "Bridge the Gap" movement to a city with an already legendary running history. Their philosophy was one of radical inclusivity, captured in their mottos, "Our City, Our Crew, Together we run" and "All paces welcome. No runner left behind."

Unnamed Run Crew: The Pioneers Who Brought Bridge the Gap to "Titletown"

In May 2015, a new movement was born on the streets of Boston. Unnamed Run Crew was founded by Leandrew with the mission of bringing the social and inclusive spirit of the global Bridge the Gap (BTG) movement to "Titletown." They believed that running was the best way to truly see the city, and they created a community that was open to all. Though they are no longer active, their impact on the city's running culture was significant.

A Philosophy of 'Our City, Our Crew'

Unnamed Run Crew believed in inclusivity and local pride. Their motto, "Our City, Our Crew, Together we run," invited everyone to join. With principles like "Come as you are. All paces welcome. No runner left behind," they offered a welcoming space for all, different from traditional, performance-focused clubs. This spirit captured what the Bridge the Gap movement was all about.

Unnamed Run Crew’s culture centered on their weekly run. At their peak, they met every Tuesday night at 6:30 at Area Four in the South End. These gatherings became a dependable and friendly way for runners to connect, explore Boston, and share their love of running.

An Open-Door Legacy

Although Unnamed Run Crew is no longer active, their legacy lives on in the open and welcoming community they created. They helped bring the modern run crew movement to Boston and made sure everyone felt included. Their story is still an inspiring part of Boston’s running history.

The Boston Running Scene

By leading the BTG movement in Boston, Unnamed Run Crew helped create a diverse and lively running culture. Today, Boston has many other crews, like the diversity-focused PIONEERS Run Crew in Dorchester and the original November Project. This variety means there’s a community for every kind of runner.

The city of Boston is a true runner's paradise, a place where the sport is deeply woven into the city's identity. From my current location in Cape Town, the thought of its rich running history is inspiring. The city offers a variety of stunning routes, from the scenic paths along the Charles River Esplanade to the interconnected parks of the Emerald Necklace. The premier event on the global running calendar is, of course, the Boston Marathon. Held every April on Patriots' Day, the world's oldest annual marathon is a time of major celebration for the entire city.
