They hold a regular group run every Wednesday evening that welcomes everyone and brings together people from different backgrounds.

Minato Running Club: Bringing Energy and Respect to the Port of Nagoya

In February 2022, a new running community was established in the Minato Ward of Nagoya with a meaningful social mission. The Minato Running Club was formed not only for members to enjoy running but also to bring fresh, positive energy to Nagoya’s port area. The founders aimed to unite people from diverse backgrounds and fields, creating a lively, diverse community that celebrates both their city and the sport.

A Philosophy of Port, Respect, and People

The ethos of the Minato Running Club is built on three simple yet impactful principles: "Run with port, Respect for sports, Accept all people." This philosophy influences everything they do. "Run with port" emphasizes their strong connection to Nagoya’s port area, using running to explore and energize their local community. "Respect for sports" and "Accept all people" foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment where everyone can enjoy a healthy lifestyle, regardless of background or running ability.

The group has grown into a lively community led by Oda. They are a friendly and approachable group that has become an essential part of Nagoya’s local running scene. Besides their regular runs, they focus on giving back to the community and are planning to host their own running event next January.

The Weekly "Port Run"

The culture of the Minato Running Club revolves around their weekly social run. Every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., the team meets for the "Port Run," starting at the Minatomachi POTLUCK BUILDING. This casual, short-distance group run is a key part of their community, providing a great opportunity for members to connect, relax, and enjoy the scenic views of their port-side neighborhood at night.

Minato Running Club warmly invites everyone in Nagoya to join their community. Their runs are open to all, and they’re always happy to welcome newcomers who share their love for running and their city. To participate in their Wednesday run, interested individuals should contact them through their official social media channels.

The Nagoya Running Scene

Minato Running Club presents a unique port-focused identity within Nagoya’s diverse running community. The city also hosts other innovative and influential groups, such as the lifestyle-oriented Common Landscape, founded in 2015. Together, these organizations create a lively and supportive environment for runners in Japan's fourth-largest city.

Nagoya is a major industrial and economic center, featuring one of Japan’s busiest and most notable ports. This industrial power, combined with a lively cultural history, creates a distinctive and inspiring setting for an urban running group.

The main home base and primary route for the Minato Running Club is around Nagoya Port, including trails near the Minatomachi POTLUCK BUILDING. Other popular routes feature the scenic loop around Nagoya Castle and the paths of Meijo Park. The city’s flagship race, the Nagoya City Marathon, is a major event for local runners.
