Claremont Trotters: Building a Community, One Run at a Time
The Claremont Trotters began in January 2019 when four friends in Claremont wanted to run together. Their group grew fast. Now, runners of all levels join in for support and community.
The four founders each bring something different. Christina started the group and got everyone together. Emilio, the first member, is a marathon runner and made the logo. Nancy motivates the group and got everyone to run the LA Marathon as a team in 2020. John writes the Instagram posts. Their goal is simple: make a place where anyone can run, relax, and feel welcome.
The Trotters have built a real community based on support. Running the 2020 LA Marathon together showed what they can do as a team. Both new and experienced runners feel encouraged and included.
The Trotters keep things simple and social. They run together every Wednesday night for 3 to 5 miles, which is a good way to break up the week. Saturday mornings are for longer runs, great for anyone training for a race or wanting to build endurance with friends.
If you’re in the area and want to run with a friendly group, the Trotters are happy to have you. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to running or have done marathons before. Check their social media for details and join a run.
Claremont has a lot of great places to run. The Trotters like to go through the neighborhoods near the Claremont Colleges and enjoy the scenery. For a tough workout, the Claremont Loop in the Wilderness Park has hills and great views. If you want a flat run, the Pacific Electric Trail is a long, paved path that goes for over 20 miles.
Claremont has some great running events every year. In April, there’s the Claremont 5K and Half Marathon. The Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving is a local favorite. In the summer, the Twilight 5K gives runners a chance to race in the evening through the Claremont Village.
