LAST: The Singaporean Crew Where You 'Come Correct, Come Connect'
On the first day of 2019, a new running crew called LAST was founded in Singapore with a unique purpose. Founders Jackson and Jonathan wanted to create more than just a group to run with; they wanted to build a platform. Inspired by the subcultures in which they grew up, they set out to establish a community that promotes the true culture and lifestyle of running, providing diverse people from all walks of life with a space to be heard.
A Philosophy Forged in Subculture
The philosophy of LAST is to serve as a platform for individuals who want their voices to be heard through running. The founders, Jackson and Jonathan, have built a community that values the sharing of views and opinions without prejudice (running-related, of course). This ethos, born from the subcultures that shaped them, creates a space for authentic and meaningful connections, where the run serves as the medium for a deeper conversation.
The culture of LAST is built around their powerful invitation to "Come correct. Come connect." This suggests a community that values intention, respect, and genuine engagement. Their activities are centered on group runs that foster this environment, allowing a diverse group of people to come together and share their passion for running. They document their journey and unite their community under the hashtag #runthelast.
LAST extends a direct and powerful invitation to runners in Singapore who are looking for more than just a workout. For individuals who want to be part of a community with a strong culture and a platform for expression, their message is clear: "Come correct. Come connect." Interested runners are encouraged to follow their journey via their official social media channels.
The Singapore Running Scene
LAST brings its unique, subculture-influenced voice to Singapore's vibrant and diverse running scene. The city-state is a major hub for the run crew movement in Southeast Asia and is home to other pioneering groups, including Purple Lights, a social crew founded in 2011 that is famous for its post-run meals and its role in co-founding the #BTGBALI event. This rich ecosystem ensures a community for every type of runner.
The city of Singapore is a stunning place to run. From my current location in Croatia, the thought of its futuristic "Garden City" landscape is incredible. As a global financial hub with a tropical climate, it offers a unique blend of hyper-modern urban environments and lush, planned green spaces. The city's running community is passionate and resilient, training year-round in the heat and humidity.
The runners of Singapore have one of the most breathtaking urban running routes in the world as their playground: the loop around Marina Bay. This route takes runners past iconic landmarks, including the magnificent Marina Bay Sands hotel, the futuristic "supertrees" of Gardens by the Bay, and the mythical Merlion statue. For a longer, coastal experience, the paths of East Coast Park offer miles of uninterrupted running. The premier racing event in the city is the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, a World Athletics Platinum Label race that brings the global running community to their streets.
